12-days and nights long disaster management training ‘Aapda Mitra’ commences in Leh

Some 12 day Aapda Mitra training was organised via the Ladakh Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with Ladakh Scouts 18 Corps and maintained the National Disaster Management Authority on June 10.

Commandant, Ladakh Scouts Regiment Centre, VSM Colonel Rinchen Dorje was the chief customer and any additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sonam Chosjor was the customer of honour on the occasion.

Colonel Rinchen Dorje said that the focus of the Aapda Mitra training scheme is to spot and train community volunteers to generate their capacity for mitigating problems. He added that the volunteers will be trained to act in response to the immediate needs of the community during emergencies like flash floods& cloud bursts.

When interacting with the volunteers, ADC Leh on behalf of the Ladakh Disaster Management Authority welcomed& congratulated the first batch and expressed gratitude to the Patron, Ladakh Scout Regimental Center, and all the involved officers for collaboration. He hoped for fruitful training for the three pots.

He added that the key target of such training is to train common civilian staff to react in emergencies.

Survival sets were also distributed among the volunteers.

The Aapda Mitra system should provide community volunteers with the skill sets that they would need to respond on their community ‘s immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster thereby enabling them to undertake basic relief and rescue tasks during emergencies such as floods, flash surges, and urban flooding.
