LAHDC Kargil signs MoU with Wipro Foundation to strengthen education sector

CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Wipro Foundation, Bengaluru on June 18 to strengthen the education sector in Kargil.

The signing ceremony was attended by Executive Councillor (EC) for Tourism, Kacho Mohd Feroz; EC for Education, Zakir Hussain; Chief Education Officer Kargil, Sonam Wangchuk; Principal DIET, S.D. Wangyal; and representatives from Wipro Foundation—Avinash Kumar and Ashish Jha. Also present were Anup George from Azim Premji University and Preeti Chauhan from Navikru Eco Foundation.

The meeting involved detailed discussions on key aspects of the MoU, which include:
•    Promoting computer education across government schools in Kargil.
•    Training resource persons in ICT (Information and Communication Technology).
•    Establishing a Career Development Cell for students.
•    Building a long-term partnership with Azim Premji University to facilitate admissions under scholarship programs.

CEC Dr. Jaffer expressed his appreciation for Wipro Foundation’s commitment to initiating meaningful educational interventions in a remote region like Kargil. He termed the fellowship model for creating ICT resource persons as a “novel and impactful” initiative and assured full support from LAHDC for projects under education, health, and environment.

EC Kacho Mohd Feroz emphasized that the expertise and reputation of Wipro Foundation will significantly benefit the areas they choose to engage with in Kargil.

EC Zakir Hussain suggested focusing on one component at a time to ensure quality implementation and proposed active involvement of Village Education Committees for better grassroots collaboration.

Avinash Kumar from Wipro Foundation lauded LAHDC Kargil’s openness and positive approach, expressing confidence in the successful execution of the initiative.
