Collaborative Progress: IIT-led Delegation Discusses Sindhu Central University’s Development with Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor

A delegation led by Professor Sachin S Gunthe from IIT Madras met with Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on July 9. Also present were L Franklin, Commissioner/Secretary to the LG, Padma Angmo, Commissioner/Secretary of Higher Education, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Ladakh (UoL), and Nawang Tundup, In-charge Registrar.

Professor Sachin, the Faculty Coordinator for Sindhu Central University under mentorship from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, briefed the LG on their visit to Ladakh to review the university’s progress. He mentioned that construction of the Sindhu Central University’s transit camp is scheduled for completion by the end of August.

Highlighting their objectives, Professor Sachin outlined Sindhu Central University’s goal of achieving full operational status within four years. He provided details on three courses launched in collaboration with IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, currently enrolling seven students, including three from Ladakh. He also discussed plans for joint initiatives with University of Ladakh.

The LG stressed the importance of integrating local students from Sindhu Central University currently studying at IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur into the main campus placements. Various topics were discussed, including research collaborations on wind energy at University of Ladakh, prioritization of Ladakhi students and faculty at Sindhu Central University, and reservations for local students at University of Ladakh.
