Director’s Visit: Enhancing Infrastructure and Community Well-being in Gongma, Kargil

Tahir Hussain, the Director of Urban Local Bodies in Ladakh, conducted a comprehensive visit to key areas within MC Wards No. 7 and No. 8 in Gongma, Kargil on December 25. Accompanied by Imteeaz Kacho, the Administrator of MC-Kargil, and Shafqat Ali Khan, the Executive Officer of MC-Kargil, along with officials and residents from these wards, the Director received extensive briefings on various community issues. These issues included the need for proper drainage systems, the urgency of road black-topping, installation of lane tiles, ensuring adequate street lighting, removal of construction materials encroaching on roadsides, establishment of children’s parks, augmentation of the number of sweepers, and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the area.

During the discussions, the Director highlighted the ongoing sewage treatment project and assured residents of dedicated efforts to address their concerns and fulfill their demands. Emphasizing communal responsibility, he stressed the necessity for residents to actively maintain and safeguard the infrastructure developed by the Municipal Committee.

Furthermore, the Director issued directives to the concerned Municipal Committee officials, urging the immediate removal of any construction debris obstructing roads and advocating the excavation of sewage pits to facilitate proper drainage, thereby preventing overflow onto the roads.

Conversations also focused on plans to create environmentally friendly public spaces in Gongma, Kargil, catering to both the local populace and tourists, with the aim of enhancing the area’s appeal and functionality.
