Drass Conducts Comprehensive Earthquake Drill to Enhance Community Preparedness

On August 22, a comprehensive earthquake mock drill was conducted in the Drass Sub-Division, involving various key stakeholders to boost community preparedness and education on effective response measures during seismic events. The exercise aimed to enhance coordination and readiness among different agencies and the local population for potential earthquakes.

The drill began with a detailed demonstration led by Sajad Hussain, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science at Govt. Degree College Drass, and Noor Mohd, Zonal Physical Incharge. They provided crucial information on earthquake safety and highlighted the importance of preparedness.

Abdullah Khan, SHO Drass, emphasized the need for immediate and coordinated action during such emergencies.

The drill was overseen by Ghulam Asgar, Incharge SDM Drass, who stressed the significance of these exercises in a seismically active region. He also praised the collaboration between civil administration, law enforcement, and the military in ensuring the safety of Drass residents.

The Indian Army played a pivotal role in the success of the drill, providing essential support through their Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and Medical Units. Subedar Rajinder and Havaldar Kuldeep from the Army Police led the military’s involvement, ensuring discipline and coordination throughout the exercise. The medical team, led by Subedar Patil Kamalakar, demonstrated emergency medical procedures, including first aid and safe transport of injured individuals.

The mock drill simulated a real earthquake scenario, with participants practicing evacuation procedures, search and rescue operations, and the setup of emergency response centers. The event highlighted the necessity of collaboration among various agencies to effectively handle disaster situations.

Volunteers from the Ulama Council Drass actively participated, and the residents of Drass engaged in the drill, practicing evacuation techniques and gaining hands-on experience in emergency response. The exercise served as a crucial reminder of the unpredictability of natural disasters and the ongoing need for preparedness.

SDM Drass extended his gratitude to all participants and collaborators, including the Indian Army, police, and educational institutions, for their commitment to community safety. He reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to conducting regular drills and training sessions to ensure Drass residents are well-prepared for any natural disaster.
