Skill Enhancement Journey: ITI Leh Students Train at CSIR-IHBT Palampur

Students from the Floriculture and Landscaping program at ITI Leh are currently engaged in a short-term training program at the Institute of Himalayan Bio Resource Technology (CSIR-IHBT) in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, spanning from March 15 to 25.

Thirteen students, accompanied by a faculty member, are currently participating in this ten-day program at IHBT Palampur, where they are gaining practical training and guidance from faculty and experts. The training agenda covers a range of subjects, including cultivation techniques, plant propagation, pest management, and post-harvest handling, incorporating interactive sessions, field trips, and hands-on exercises.

This training initiative is part of the ‘Skill Immersion Programme’ launched by the Ladakh Skill Development Mission (LSDM). Under this program, students from Industrial Training Institutes are attached to esteemed national institutes for periods ranging from two to six weeks. The objective is to provide them with practical training, exposure to industry practices, mentorship, and technology integration.

The initiative was inaugurated in 2023 by the Ladakh Skill Development Mission. Initially, 14 students specializing in the ‘Motor Mechanic Vehicle’ trade from ITI Leh and Kargil were dispatched to the Central Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institute (CFMTTI) in Budhni, Madhya Pradesh, for a 40-day training session in October 2023. Subsequently, in October 2023, students specializing in the ‘Electrician’ trade also underwent an 18-day training program at CFMTTI, Budhni.

LSDM continues to collaborate with other national institutes to expand the ‘Skill Immersion Programme’ to include students from various Industrial Training Institutes.
